Walkers and Cyclists Welcome

Walkers and cyclists are most welcome to stay at Rosemount Cottage whether as a base for exploring the local area or as a stopping off point along the trails and cycleways.

The following designated routes pass right outside our cottage:-

  • Hadrian’s Wall National Trail
  • Cumbrian Coastal Way
  • Hadrian’s Cycleway (National Route 72)
  • Reivers Cycleway (Regional Route 10)
  • Cumbrian Cycle Route

For those walking the Hadrian’s Wall route, we are located 8 miles from the end of the wall at Bowness on Solway.

Burgh by Sands provides a good stopping off point for those that wish a shorter walk on the final stretch before travelling back home or away, or for those who start their walk part way through the day from Bowness following their arrival.

For those who wish to break the Carlisle—Bowness section, Burgh is a good mid-point stop.

Alternatively, Burgh is a good days walking to and from the villages east of Carlisle (Crosby, Irthington, Walton) for those who would prefer not to stay over in the City of Carlisle.

For evening relaxation and meals we have two pubs nearby: The Greyhound Inn is 250 metres away and the Drover’s Rest at Monkhill a 15-20 minute walk (or we can give you a lift).

We offer the following facilities and amenities for the benefit of walkers and cyclists (and anyone else that might need them):

  • Flexible arrival times
  • Flexible breakfast times
  • Morning calls/Alarm clocks
  • Maps
  • Laundry/Drying/Ironing facilities
  • Secure cycle storage
  • Packed lunches
  • Transport to/from trail
  • Baggage transport
  • Puncture repair kit
  • First aid kit
  • Internet access
  • We keep a limited stock of provisions for purchase (drinks/confectionery etc)
